ABOUT THE PROJECT

This gallery is here to highlight the problem facing the United States music industry where in women are underrepresented when compared to their male peers. This topic is important to me because of how unaware most people are to the issue. Before researching and compiling information on this topic I was under the assumption that women would be over represented in this field, but I was mistaken like many others. I am focusing specifically on the United States in this gallery due to the surplus of information available. While this information is readily available, I believe that most people are greatly uninformed on the topic just like I was. This gallery is meant to take this topic of women in the music industry from an anthropological perspective. This means I will be highlighting the issues as to why I believe there is a gender disparity within this industry and why women have received the short end of the stick. When looking at this gallery I would like the visitors to pay close attention to the real-world examples and numbers when it comes to women, when compared to men, in the music industry.  That topic along with some of the organizations currently working to change this disparity and advocates for equal representation are both extremely important to pay attention to while reading. One last thing I think is important for reader to notice while looking at this gallery is how these differences in the gender could and do apply to other fields.
